A professionally created appliance offers benefits over simply installing the application into a virtual private server, including error reporting, orderly startup/shutdown, security, controlled connectivity to other appliances, exposure and automatic adjustment of application setup parameters, and most importantly of all, compliance with the AppLogic Object-oriented appliance paradigm which allows for easy software re-use, painless parallelism, and effortless updates to software in running appliances.
